Are you...
- ...active in your church, but want
more?
- ...ready to put your faith into action
and make a difference?
- ...looking for friends who have a
vision like you?
Then you need to be a part of YSLI!
What is the Youth Servant Leader Institute (YSLI)?
- Fifteen high school youth are selected
from across ELCA churches in Southern Minnesota in 2006.
- These 15 young people gather together
for one week during the summer and four retreats throughout the year for
leadership training that is grounded in our Lutheran theology of grace.
These 15 young people will also build community with one another that will
help support and shape their experience with YSLI.
- The training through the week-long camp
and the retreats looks like this:

In a practical sense, young people will
participate in sessions that train them about
- How to enlist and support volunteers
within your own congregation
- Budget development and management
- Organizational skills
- Time management skills
The Program Includes:
- 15 youth in 2006-2007, an additional 25
youth in 2007-2008, their adult mentors, and local support team developing
practical skills for service-oriented ministry
- Congregational support of youth
- Planning, developing, and managing a
service project for their home congregation or local community by each
participant
- A summer week-long leadership camp at
Good Earth Village (August 7-11, 2006)
- Four weekend retreats that are grounded
in our Lutheran theology of grace
- Support, guidance, and encouragement
from the Program Coordinator and Advisory Committee
- Urban plunge experiences and planned
service trips to Holden Village and Tanzania
