2004 Synod Assembly: "Called Into God's Marvelous Light"

Many Honored, All Entertained at Evening Banquet

Dozens of people were recognized Friday evening during a banquet at the 17th annual Southeastern Minnesota Synod Assembly.

With entertainment provided at regular intervals by the band Dakota Road, the banquet recognized retiring pastors, ordination anniversaries, pastors who have died within the last year, pastors receiving debt forgiveness, outgoing Southeastern Minnesota Synod Council members, and the recipient of the Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota Servant of Christ Award. The event was emceed by the Rev. Craig Boehlke, the Region 3 coordinator.

Retiring clergy included: the Rev. Sherman P. Coltvet, the Rev. John H. Hagen, the Rev. Herbert J. Hafermann, the Rev. Delbert G. Keltto, the Rev. Howard M. Reinschmidt, the Rev. Iver Torgerson, the Rev. Arthur H. Thorstensen, Junior, the Rev. Laurel L. Thorstensen, and the Rev. Wayne Radke.

Ordination anniversaries included: the Rev. Craig Breimhorst (25 years), the Rev. Craig Ellingboe (25 years), the Rev. Thomas Kolden (25 years), the Rev. Major Richard Lund (25 years), the Rev. James Radatz (25 years), the Rev. Norman Wahl (25 years), the Rev. Fred Hagen (40 years), the Rev. David Hernes (40 years), the Rev. Herman Heupel (40 years), the Rev. Delbert Keltto (40 years), the Rev. Wayne Radke (40 years), the Rev. Robert Stoskopf (40 years), the Rev. Gary Terrio (40 years), the Rev. Arthur H. Thorstensen Junior (40 years), the Rev. Harlan Blockus (50 years), the Rev. Vernon Faillettaz (50 years), the Rev. Eldon Person (50 years), the Rev. Glennys Knutson (55 years), and the Rev. Dale Striker (60 years).

Pastors who have died included: the Rev. Clifford Schroeder (Oct. 25, 2003), the Rev. Sidney A. Rand (Dec. 16, 2003), the Rev. Edward W. Swenson (Feb. 14, 2004), and the Rev. Philip Anttila (March 28, 2004).

Pastors who received $500 debt forgiveness of included: the Rev. Justin Boeding, the Rev. Jennifer Graf, the Rev. Brian Hooper, the Rev. Reginald Klindworth, and the Rev. Kari Williamson.

Outgoing Southeastern Minnesota Synod Council members included: the Rev. Steve Bohling, the Rev. Phil Lewison, Kathy Tanabe, the Rev. Nancy Dreier, Kris Oppegard, the Rev. Norm Wahl, and Byron Stadsvold.

Recipient of the Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota Servant of Christ Award: Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams for working to make a local group home a part of the community.
