Resolution 2005-07:

Mission Support

This resolution failed.

WHEREAS, God's people in the Southeastern Minnesota Synod, ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) are called to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ by sharing proportionately as we have been blessed (1 Corinthians 16:2) to carry out Christ's commission (Matthew 28:19-20); and

WHEREAS, it is essential to provide a strong financial foundation for the mission of the Church in the Southeastern Minnesota Synod and the ELCA; and

WHEREAS, 15% of unrestricted congregational income has been the historical goal for congregational support for the funding of synodical/churchwide ministry;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that congregations currently below 15% be encouraged to increase by one percent a year of their unrestricted and undesignated income the amount given for synodical/churchwide work; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that congregations after reaching the 15% level, are encouraged to continue to grow their giving as they grow in their understanding of and participation in biblical stewardship.
