Resolution 2005-07:
Mission Support
This
resolution failed.
WHEREAS, God's people in the
Southeastern Minnesota Synod, ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America)
are called to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ by sharing
proportionately as we have been blessed (1 Corinthians 16:2) to carry out
Christ's commission (Matthew 28:19-20); and
WHEREAS, it is essential to
provide a strong financial foundation for the mission of the Church in the
Southeastern Minnesota Synod and the ELCA; and
WHEREAS, 15% of unrestricted
congregational income has been the historical goal for congregational
support for the funding of synodical/churchwide ministry;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that
congregations currently below 15% be encouraged to increase by one percent a
year of their unrestricted and undesignated income the amount given for
synodical/churchwide work; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that
congregations after reaching the 15% level, are encouraged to continue to
grow their giving as they grow in their understanding of and participation
in biblical stewardship.
