"A Bunch of Guys," musical
guests at the Assembly, started off the second day by leading morning
prayer. Using an easy-going style of call and response singing, "A Bunch of
Guys" not only loosened up the voting members, but also prepared them for
the day's work.
"A Bunch of Guys," consisting
of David Piper, John Christianson, and Knute Ogren, (together with many
friends) hail from New Hampshire. They met at Camp Calumet Lutheran in
Freedom, New Hampshire and have been playing together for more than 10
years.
Clearly they are accomplished
musicians, demonstrated by one of the most striking aspects of morning
prayer, a closing round sung à cappella. Members were coached in parts and
ended the service. Also memorable were the sung-response prayers for the
assembly and the world.
"A Bunch of Guys" is unique
because all proceeds received from the sale of their CDs goes to ELCA World
Hunger. To date, they have raised over $136,000.
