Campus Ministry

ELCA Campus Ministry marks its
beginning with the call of the Rev. Howard Gold as campus pastor at the
University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1907.
-
The Lutheran Student
Association of America began over 75 years ago in 1922.
-
The Lutheran Student Movement
– USA, the successor Lutheran student organization, was born in 1969.
-
Lutheran campus pastors and
ministers have gathered at a national conference annually for 60 years,
since 1946.
-
There are currently 190 Campus
Ministry agencies across the country. This number has increased in recent
years, due to new ecumenical partnerships and new funding support.

There are nearly 400
Cooperative Congregations in Campus Ministry, serving nearby campus
communities where no professional staff are available.
-
Nearly 10,000 different
students worship in our ministries during a semester, and during an average
week 4,400 are in worship.

More than 30,000 initial
student contacts were made by Campus Ministry on campuses across the
country.

Ninety-two baptisms were
performed by campus pastors last year, 43 of them adult/young adult.

Over 2,500 students
participate in a weekly Bible Study or faith development opportunities
during the academic year.

Campus ministries reported
approximately 4,990 students participated in community service during the
year. Fifty-eight percent of the ministries offered a service travel
opportunity, with 1,433 students participating.

Two hundred thirty-one
students from CMAs are enrolled in seminary. An additional 202 students from
Campus Ministry are reported as being in the candidacy process for rostered
leadership in the ELCA.

Over 170 serve in agencies
such as Lutheran Volunteer Corps and Peace Corps.

Over 2,600 students and alumni
are reported to be involved in leadership positions in their congregations
or synods.
Monthly Bible Verse
This Bible verse was selected by Harold Usgaard, bishop of the
Southeastern Minnesota Synod, for everyone in the synod to study.

people in 184 congregations as well as related institutions of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Its geographic area includes
15 counties in the southeastern corner of Minnesota.
