Miscellaneous
Our topic was office equipment, but we discussed
many different things pertinent to our positions. One resource for clip art that
Joanne likes is faithclipart.com. We
agreed that churchsecretary.com is
not so good.
Joanne told us about some ideas she’s been trying
to increase readership of her newsletter. One thing that has really caught on at
Our Savior’s is a search and find name contest. Each month she has a member’s
name somewhere in the newsletter and if you find your name you get a prize. She
asked for donations of prizes throughout Rochester and got a wide variety of
freebies to give away. Another idea someone had for a prize is to offer front
row seating (or the seat of your choice) to the Christmas Eve service and the
children’s Christmas program as a prize. What a great idea, and free!
Another idea she had for newsletter content was to
have leaders of the church write their own faith story. She started with Bishop
Usgaard and from there leaders have signed up to submit their stories each
month.
Some churches do a recipe corner in their
newsletter. This can be recipes from a church cookbook to start out with and
from there members may opt to submit their own recipes to share.
Some of the communicators in attendance send out
e-news alerts to members that they have e-mail addresses for, but only when
something important comes up, not as a weekly or regular basis. This way when
members get a e-news alert from the church they know it’s something important.
Office Equipment
We looked at office equipment at Trinity, which
includes a network printer/copier, a folding machine, a binder, and a laminator.
