The Colegio Evangelico Luterano De Colombia (Evangelical Lutheran School of
Colombia – CELCO) of Sogamoso, Boyaca, Colombia is seeking volunteers to
teach English.

Who:
The ideal candidate for this position will have an attitude of service to
others and an interest in interacting with youth. Candidates should
preferably have a bachelors degree, ideally with some background in
education. Applicants should have some Spanish language skills. Spanish
tutors are available in Sogamoso ($4/hour). It is also strongly preferred
that the applicant have some knowledge of basic Lutherananism. The school is
looking for two volunteers. These may be a couple, friends, or unconnected
individuals.
What:
Volunteers’ main responsibility will be to teach English. Other
responsibilities will depend on the skills of the individual, but
opportunities include career/life counseling, teaching confirmation,
teaching music, etc.
When:
For 2008, applications are due March 15.
Teaching is for the second term, which in Colombia is from the end of July
through mid December.
Where:
The
school is in Sogamoso, Boyaca, Colombia. The school is a k-12 school of
about 400 students.
The
volunteer(s) will be provided with housing at the school. Food and utilities
will be extra. The Southeastern Minnesota Synod will provide the full
round-trip airfare to Bogotá and a stipend of $400/month per volunteer for
six months to cover living expenses.
Volunteers will be responsible for obtaining appropriate vaccinations and a
passport.
