Companion Synod Covenant - Tanzania
Global Mission >
Tanzania > Companion Synod Covenant
With the Central Diocese of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Tanzania.
Vision
The Companion Synod relationship exists for the purpose of strengthening
one another for life and mission within the body of Christ. It offers us the
privilege of participating in the life of another church through prayer,
study, communication, and exchange of people and resources. It opens our
eyes to the global challenge that Christ offers us today and calls us to
deepen our commitment and discipleship as individual people and as a
community of faith.
Mission
Through the Companion Synod Program we will:
- Be renewed and empowered in our faith
and commitment to mission.
- Participate in a shared vision for life
and mission.
- Be educated and challenged by mutual
discussion of our problems and possibilities.
- Recognize each others’ gifts and
resources for participation in the Companion Synod mission of Christ.
Goals - 2006-2009
- By 2009, every interested Central Diocese ELCT congregation will be
partnered with a SE Minnesota Synod congregation.
- Regular corporate and individual prayer support for each other.
- Regular exchange of newsletters, stories of faith and life in mission,
and other communications.
- Provide opportunities for the exchange of pastors, lay people or youth
groups.
- Support exchange trips between partnered congregations.
- Encourage each others’ ministries through the continued support of
Lutheran Institute Kiomboi, Iambi Hospital, and other mutually agreed upon
projects. Specifics for these projects will be identified in a separate
document, and reviewed annually.
- Annual visit of a representative of the SE Minnesota Synod to the
Central Diocese to keep communication open, review progress on specified
projects, and strengthen the companion relationship.
- Support the ministry of Lutheran Mission Cooperation (LMC).
