Partnership opportunities available between the
Southeastern Minnesota Synod and its companion synods in Colombia and
Tanzania

be a partner congregation
Many
congregations in Colombia and Tanzania are looking for Southeastern
Minnesota Synod congregations who would like to partner with them for prayer
support, exchanges of letters (one or two times/year), and perhaps financial
help.
be a teacher or a worker overseas
There
are many opportunities to work overseas. People are need to serve as:

English, theology, and parish administration teachers, Lutheran Institute
Kiomboi

Labor/technical and professional volunteers, Iambi Hospital Renovation

Land
restoration project volunteers, Lutheran Institute Kiomboi

gifts to Colombia and Tanzania
Scholarships: Tanzania and Colombia
A general scholarship fund exists for students at ELCT schools in the
Central Diocese or Central Diocese students attending schools throughout
Tanzania. In Colombia, the Colombian Scholarship Fund and Leadership
Initiative – LIZWAN – is available.
Undesignated funds
Any gifts to the Southeastern Minnesota Synod for missions that are not
designated are split between Tanzania and Colombia and go into the general
funds for each synod. Funds are disbursed as needs arise at the discretion
of the Global Mission/Companion Synods Committee. The committee meets
bi-monthly to decide where funds would be most effective.
Tanzania Undesignated Gifts
These gifts go into the Tanzania General Fund and are disbursed as needs
arise.
Colombia Undesignated Gifts
These gifts go into the Colombia General Fund and are disbursed as needs
arise.

Kiomboi Land Restoration: Healing the Land, Planting Seeds of Hope Project
aimed at making Lutheran Institute Kiomboi self-sustaining through
agriculture

Lutheran Institute Bicycle Program Providing gifts of bicycles to graduates
of Lutheran Institute Kiomboi

Kijota Women's Center
Provides education to young women to help them escape the cycle of poverty

There are many mission projects currently underway in Colombia, including

Colombian Scholarship Fund and Leadership Initiative – LIZWAN
This fund provides scholarships for impoverished children to attend school.
The fund offers scholarships for people in elementary school through
graduate school.

Proyecto Liderazgo Misionero Sigio XXI 21st Century Missionary Leadership
Project
1. The Retreat Center will provide space for retreats, recreation, and
regular meetings and conferences of the IELCO, as well as space for other
church groups and community organizations to gather.
2. The Lutheran School of Theology ELT (Colombia) prepares evangelists and
lay people to work with the ministers of the IELCO. Student scholarships and
teacher support funds are needed, as well as funds for library resources,
and funds to promote the school's existence throughout Colombia.
