This series of prayer petitions may be used for congregational worship services. It would be best to use them in succession so that a variety of prayer concerns relating to our companion synods may become more familiar to synod congregations.

Prayers for Colombia

Week 1: O God of compassion, we pray for our brothers and sisters in Colombia who have faced decades of civil war. We pray that civil order may be restored through the actions of sensible and compassionate leaders. We pray that people in authority would work for equitable use of resources, access to education and a reformed justice system and that all people might have the opportunity to live in justice and freedom. Week 4: O God, as the leaders of our government seek solutions to the civil strife in neighboring Colombia, we pray for wisdom and understanding in their decisions. Help us to seek broader solutions that rely not only on military aid, but also on the encouragement of government structures that respect human rights. Lord in your mercy...

Week 5: O God of wholeness and health, we pray that the farmers of Colombia might be able to grow food crops that provide adequate income instead of the coca crop that is used in the making of drugs. Week 3: Lord Jesus, as you called disciples to learn from you, we pray for the schools of the Central Diocese that bring education to the people of Tanzania. We pray for the students and faculty of the Kiomboi Lutheran Bible Institute. We pray for the Mwangaza School and all other local schools that bring together people to teach others to read and learn skills. We pray that your Spirit would bless these places of learning that the aspirations of the Tanzanian people might be lifted high. Lord in your mercy...

Week 4: O God of healing and wholeness, we pray that the people of Tanzania might receive good health care. We pray for local hospitals and dispensaries that they might have adequate medical supplies and trained staff to help people heal in body and soul. We pray for your strong arm of protection to be over the people of Tanzania that they might be saved from the scourge of AIDS. We pray for protection from malnutrition and disease.
